I rolled over in bed, looking up at the sun roof. I saw that the sun was just peering over the edge of the window. I rolled over, burying my face into my pillow. I sighed; there was no way I was getting back to bed. I sat up, stretching. I got out of bed, getting dressed in a simple black sleeveless cotton shirt and jeans.  Walking over to the window, I looking at the village bellow the hill.

My name is Yugi Motou. I’m 18, and I live at the edge of a small village. I live alone, but it doesn’t bother me. I go into town a lot, so I never really am alone. I pulled on my shoes and a blue jacket, running a hand through my black, gold and purple hair. I walked out the door, getting ready to go down to the village to get some food and other supplies I needed for the week. As I walked out the door, however, I bumped into someone.

“Oh Ra, I’m sorry.” I said, looking up at the unknown person. “I wasn’t paying attention.”

A friendly face with white hair and brown eyes smiled back. “It’s ok Yugi. I should have knocked first.”

“Oh, Ryou! What are you doing here?” I asked.

“I just come by to see if you needed help with anything. I was free today.” I smiled back,

“As a matter of fact, yeah, I do need help with a few things.”
We walked down to the market; Ryou helped my pick up a few ingredients for dinner. We also pick up a few seeds for planting in the garden.  I was small for my age, so Ryou helped me carry some of the bigger things. When we got home, I asked Ryou, “Do you want to stay for dinner? There is plenty of food for the both of us.” He nodded,

“Sounds good.”

After a dinner of soup and bread, Ryou left, leaving me alone again. As I was getting ready to go to bed, I noticed that Ryou had left his jacket in the living room. It was dark out, so I decided to wait until tomorrow. Not because I was afraid of the dark, it was because of my childhood fear.

Vampires. The damned monsters that killed without reason.

I realized that I was shivering form head to toe. I walked over to the fireplace, starting a small fire to warm the equally small house. I squatted in front of the fire, trying to warm myself. A slam on the door caught my attention. I stood, cautiously walking over to the door. Opening it up a crack, I saw a man leaning against the wall of the house. Shadows covered his face, but his profile look so similar to mine, just… older. “H-hello…?” I asked hesitantly. The man’s face whipped around, he hesitantly stood away from the wall, shaking with effort. He was holding his side, dried blood stuck between his fingers.

“Oh Ra! What happened?” I asked, any caution I had had been thrown out the window. I opened the door all the way, the light from inside reveling the man’s face. He looked almost exactly like me, but looked a few years older with a few extra golden bangs that ran up his black hair, which ended in blood red spikes. His eyes were the thing that stood out to me the most. Crimson red, captivating, and… beautiful. The man groaned, falling forward. I caught him, stumbling a bit at the force of his fall. He was breathing heavily; his face had the faint look of pain on it. He was shivering slightly. I carefully dragged him inside, careful not to touch any skin in case he was bleeding anywhere else, laying him by the fire. I ran up the small flight of stairs, grabbed the woolen blanket off my bed, and then ran back down the stairs. I knelt down by the side of the wounded man, covering him with the blanket. My hand brushed over his arm as I pulled down the blanket. He was ice cold. I rubbed my hand, trying to expel the chill that had settled into it. His clothes reminded me of what I wore, a black shirt and severely torn jeans. I stood, turning to prepare some food for the man when he awoke.

A few minutes later, I heard a groan from the other room. Picking up the meal I had prepared, I walked into the living room; the man was sitting up, rubbing his side where I guess the blood had been flowing from. He turned his head to me, those red eyes full of something. Fear? No not fear, apprehension probably. I sat down next to him, setting the food in front of him. “Please, eat up.” I said, smiling at the man. He turned his head, hesitating, looking at the food. Finally, he picked up the food, eating it in small bites. He barely opened his mouth, eyes looking down. “So what’s your name?” I asked, tilting my head in curiosity. His eyes shot up, staring at me with that look again. When he finally spoke, he had finished to food. He opened his mouth, than replied;

“Y…Yami.” His voice was deep, but not an overwhelming amount. It was warm and friendly.

“Yami, huh? I’m Yugi.” I replied. He smiled shyly.

“Yugi,” the way he said my name sent shivers up my back. “Thanks for helping me out.”

“Of course!” I smiled. A sound at my door made both our heads turn. “One moment Yami.” I said, standing up walking to the door. I opened it, seeing Ryou and almost the whole village standing outside my door. “Ryou, what’s going on?” I asked.

“These been a sighting of a vampire around this end of the village. We saw it about an hour ago-” he was cut off by someone in the crowd.

“The monster looks just like you, Yug’!” Yugi’s friend Joey called out. “We wanted to make sure you were alright, that he hadn’t made it this far from where we last saw him.” My face paled and I jumped as a hand covered my mouth, and a long, ice cold, muscular arm wrapped around my neck. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw Yami’s head tilted down, the angle giving him a dangerous look. His crimson eyes were now blood red, shining with hatred.

“Don’t move…” his voice was dangerous. “The child will die if any of you try to attack.” I was shocked. This was not the man I had met only moments before. He was backing up, slowly walking toward the staircase.  I could do nothing but back up with him. Yami reached the top of the stairs, whispering in my ear, “If you try to escape, I will kill you. Just obey me, and you’ll live.” I tried to nod, grunting out of fear. He opened his mouth, and then sank two long fangs into my neck. I tensed, felling my consciousness slipping. Finally I blacked out, going limp in Yami’s arms.
